  • Sushi and Hamburger Cake...

Today is my wonderful husband's birthday, and we have spent the weekend celebrating in all sorts of ways with some new experiences thrown in. On Friday night we went out with friends for sushi, and I'm proud to say I survived. I can't say it was my favorite thing in the world, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. The taste was okay, the texture was a little strange, but it was a fun experience and I think I might be up for trying it again sometime. The first picture here is of our appetizer platter, and the second picture was of the tuna that I ate. When I look at it here I'm kind of surprised I ate it, but it was fun to try. Plus, just being out with friends we hadn't seen in awhile made the evening a hit.

Sunday we had a neighborhood picnic with people who live in our circle, and we were blessed with a beautiful day for that, so we really enjoyed the time together. I had told them that I was going to bring a birthday cake of sorts, and when I found this one in the grocery store, I just knew it had to be the cake:

Isn't it perfect? The cake was actually really good, and it was well-received at the party. A beautiful evening with neighbors who are becoming friends...good times.

Last night we continued the celebration by having my sister Annette, brother-in-law Mitch, brother Rob, and another special guest (more on that in another post) for dinner. Mike had requested an Italian dish I made a few years ago (yes, it was that good!), so I made that along with a tiramisu for dessert. We had picked up a nice bottle of wine at Whole Foods which went great with the dinner, so we had fun celebrating in that way.

And today, finally, is Mike's birthday! I'm ashamed to say that after all we did this weekend, I don't have anything special planned for today, but maybe that's okay. Leah was up very early this morning and wished him a Happy Birthday before anyone else, so that was pretty special. We are so thankful for him and are blessed to celebrate this occasion with him.
